Len Lye is most known for being the pioneer of direct filmmaking — films by scratching or painting directly onto celluloid film. I was most taken by his quote on how motion could be composed, similar to that of music. Inspired, I decided to put his words into motion.

“All of a sudden it hit me - if there was such a thing as composing music, there could be such a thing as composing motion. After all, there are melodic figures, why can't there be figures of motion?”
